About the Role
The Virginia Bankers Association (VBA) is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to manage daily accounting operations, month-end close, and financial reporting for multiple entities. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional with strong general ledger, reconciliation, and leadership experience who thrives in an in-office environment. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with GAAP, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. The Senior Accountant reports to the CFO and supervises accounting staff.
What You’ll Do
- Manage the Accountant and A/P & A/R Specialist
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all banking relationships
- Prepare and review advanced journal entries, allocations, and multi-entity reconciliations
- Lead the monthly insurance premium collection process and manage end-to-end claims payment activities
- Produce timely, accurate monthly financial statements for multiple entities
- Perform variance analysis and support annual budget preparation
- Prepare audit schedules and PBC documentation
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and VBA policies
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Payroll & AP/AR Oversight
- Oversee and approve multi-entity payroll processing
- Complete semi-monthly payroll processing for two entities
- Coordinate payroll activities with the Accountant
- Review GL coding of payments, vendor reconciliations, AR billing, and deposit documentation
Hybrid work schedule available for 3 days in office and 2 days remote at the discretion of the manager
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting
- Advanced reconciliation and month-end close experience
- Proven financial reporting and variance analysis skills
- Advanced Excel skills (formulas, lookups, pivot tables)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities

- Public accounting experience
- Leadership or mentoring experience
- Payroll reconciliation experience
- Experience with Great Plains and Paycom
