Finance & Development Associate
Berger Hirschberg Strategies is seeking an associate-level team member to aid in the advancement and fundraising of our non-profit clients. This position will be responsible for assisting in developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plans for several clients, helping to execute low and high dollar events, and supporting donor research, prospecting, and outreach. The role blends internal support with direct client-facing work, offering hands-on experience across the full fundraising cycle — from prospect identification through meeting execution and follow-up. Candidates must be hard working, very organized, have the ability to multitask/work under pressure, and work independently. This is a Full-Time, in-person position based in New York City.
Requirements
- Finance & Operations
- Work with the firm's non-profit team to assist with the implementation of several finance plans for many clients at one time
- Keep accurate accounting of all incoming donations; manage deposits; follow up, etc.
- Prepare background materials for clients
- Help staff and organize fundraising events, both in NYC and nationally
- Help to execute and coordinate logistics for national trips
- Research and make phone calls
- Help provide top-level customer service
- Be able to work in a high-pressure campaign environment and can take constructive criticism
- Nonprofit Development
- Conduct donor prospecting and research, and prepare briefing materials on donors and funders ahead of client meetings and calls
- Manage and coordinate multiple client and principal calendars, scheduling donor meetings and resolving conflicts across engagements
- Drive donor outreach through sustained email and phone follow-up, with responsibility for setting a target number of donor meetings per client each month
- Track outreach activity and meeting pipelines, ensuring timely follow-up after every donor touchpoint
- Support both internal workstreams and direct client-facing communications with professionalism and discretion
- Qualifications:
- Prior fundraising experience is preferred but not required
- Prior experience with CRM's like NGP and Numero preferred but not required
- Research experience preferred but not required
- Strong written and communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail, highly organized, and communication skills
- Comfort with high-volume phone and email outreach and persistent, professional follow-up
- Experience managing calendars or scheduling for multiple stakeholders a plus
- Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
- Time management skills are an absolute must
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed
