Blue Springs, MO is a suburb of Kansas City, MO sitting on the eastern city limits and is a community of approximately 55,000 residents. The Department has been in the process of revitalizing parks and facilities over the last four years, investing over $15 million in improvements to current park facilities within the community. In April 2021, residents approved a sales tax dedicated to park improvements, parkland development and operation subsidy. The measure passed with an 80% yes vote, demonstrating the support the community has for the Parks and Recreation Department and the improvements made over the last five years. Over the next ten years, the department will undergo a major transformation investing over $40 million to include construction of a new aquatic facility, a new 45-acre community park, and innovative improvements to playgrounds, trails, shelters, athletic fields, and several other park amenities.
Company History
Blue Springs, Missouri, located just east of Kansas City, has a rich history that dates back to the early 19th century. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Osage, who valued the region's natural springs and fertile land.
In the early 1830s, European settlers began to arrive. The town was officially founded in 1880, named after the natural blue springs that flow through the area. These springs provided a vital water source and became a focal point for the burgeoning community. The arrival of the railroad in the late 19th century spurred growth, connecting Blue Springs to larger markets and facilitating trade and travel.
As the 20th century progressed, Blue Springs transformed from a rural community into a suburban city, particularly after World War II. The population surged as families sought the charm of small-town living while maintaining proximity to Kansas City. Today, Blue Springs is known for its vibrant community, excellent schools, and diverse economy.
