This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Administrator of Parks and Recreation. The Superintendent of Recreation is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, supervising, coordinating and evaluating comprehensive recreation services.

The base salary range is between $ 71,592 -$89,490. Job Scope
Directly supervises full-time recreation services staff and indirectly supervises part-time and seasonal recreation and special events employees and volunteers. Responsible for the preparation, administration and monitoring of the division’s budget. Oversees the development and enforcement of Department policies, procedures and rules specific to assigned areas of responsibility.

Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Recruits, selects, supervises, trains, appraises, counsels, and disciplines, if necessary, volunteer and paid part-time and full-time personnel.
2. Directs diversified and comprehensive recreation services provided through, but not limited to, athletics, children’s services, special events, programs, and recreational facilities operations.
3. Through collaboration with, Marketing and Communication Manager assists in the development of division marketing plan.
4. Evaluates program content through observation and analysis; determines needs for specific activities and programs.
5. Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for programs and services (department wide and divisional).
6. Maintains personnel and payroll records for assigned direct reports.
7. Directs the maintenance of a master file on each program activity.
8. Participates in professional organizations.
9. Consults and advises the community regarding recreation activities and becomes involved in community organizations.
10. Ensures park rules and regulations are enforced.
11. Assures activities are performed in a manner to ensure the safety of participants.
12. Oversees coordination of maintenance issues for assigned facilities with the appropriate department staff and contractors.
13. Prepares and reviews division budgets. Determines cost effectiveness by analyzing revenues and expenditures. Ensures compliance to approved budget.
14. Researches new programs, needs analysis, and planning; makes recommendations and implements as appropriate.
15. Present written reports to Parks Administrator and Parks Board as needed.
16. Performs safety training and oversees departmental training.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Parks and Recreation administration or a related field required; master’s degree preferred; and,
2. Minimum five (5) years’ increasingly responsible management experience required; and,
3. Minimum of three (3) year experience in a leadership position required; and,
4. Basic first aid and CPR certification required within three (3) months of date of hire.
5. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.
