Description
Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team at a leading electrical subcontractor based in Boston. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs that ensure employee well-being, regulatory compliance, and a culture of continuous improvement in workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular job site inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures as needed.
- Deliver safety orientations and training programs focused on electrical safety and industry best practices.
- Remain current with applicable regulations, codes, and standards—including OSHA, NFPA, and NEC requirements—and ensure company-wide compliance.
- Collaborate with project managers, foremen, and field staff to integrate safety planning into project execution.
- Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for electrical work, developing and implementing effective control measures.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses involving electrical hazards; recommend preventive and corrective actions to avoid recurrence.
- Maintain thorough and accurate safety documentation, including inspection reports, training records, and incident logs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries from employees, subcontractors, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings to review safety requirements and project-specific risk considerations.
- Promote a strong safety culture by communicating safety updates, recognizing achievements, and encouraging accountability at all levels.
- Monitor, audit, and evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs through measurable performance indicators.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in construction safety management, preferably within electrical subcontracting or commercial construction environments.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical safety regulations and standards, including OSHA, NFPA 70E, and NEC.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification and current First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and train personnel effectively.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying and mitigating electrical hazards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and investigations in an electrical construction setting.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel to job sites throughout the Boston metropolitan area as required.
