About the SBI:
The Minnesota State Board of Investment (SBI), established by Article XI of the Minnesota Constitution, is responsible for investing all state funds. Its membership, as specified in the Constitution, consists of the Governor (who serves as chair), the State Auditor, the Secretary of State, and the Attorney General.
The SBI manages over $149 billion across the State’s retirement funds, cash accounts, and other pools and trusts. These assets are invested across multiple strategies, including public and private equity, fixed income, real assets, and private credit. The SBI invests both directly and through external managers, with the goal of generating attractive long-term returns without taking undue risk.
About the Opportunity:
The Investment Analyst will be a fully integrated member of an asset class team, either Public Equity or Private Markets. The Investment Analyst will perform certain operations and administrative functions, including processing and entering cash flows, performance calculation and reconciliation, new strategy onboarding, database management and portfolio compliance monitoring. In addition, the Investment Analyst will provide quantitative and qualitative research and manager due diligence support to private markets and public markets investment staff members across various asset classes.
Telework Eligible: SBI currently utilizes a hybrid model, with weekly anchor days required. This is subject to change at the discretion of the SBI Executive Director.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Strong attention to detail and emphasis on producing a high-quality work product.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Demonstrated interest in business fundamentals, capital markets and investment strategies.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a variety of professionals and various levels of an organization.Inves
- Willing participation in and desire to make continuous progress toward completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program.
- A collaborative and proactive professional who seeks to contribute to a dynamic team.
- A desire to learn and a proactive attitude.
Preferred (but not required) Qualifications
- Familiarity with investment related analytical tools an d software such as FactSet Pitchbook, Preqin, Burgiss, eVestment or similar.
- Familiarity with Excel for organizing data and creating reports, with a strong interest in building stronger skills over time.
Additional Requirements:
It is the policy of the State Board of Investment that all employees submit to a background investigation prior to employment. The background check may consist of the following components:
