Description
OverviewThe Golf Professional is responsible for delivering exceptional golf experience by overseeing all
golf operations, member services, instructional programs, tournaments, and youth/junior golf
development. This position requires both in-depth knowledge and practical experience of golf
while keeping up on rule revisions, trends and new innovations, recruitment and experiential
revenue drivers. Daily engagement with members, strong leadership of golf operations staff,
and precise administrative and financial management skills are a must so strong communication
skills are required. The Golf Professional directly supports membership recruitment and
retention, with an expectation of maintaining a minimum of 340 active members.
Experience Required
- PGA Class A Member (preferred) or PGA Associate actively pursuing Class A
certification. - 3-5 years of experience in golf operations, instruction, or private club management.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to build strong relationships with
members of all ages. - Strong instructional and coaching abilities across all skill levels.
- Highly organized with excellent administrative accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in CPS or similar club management systems, Microsoft Office, and standard
financial tools. - Retail and merchandising experience with strong product knowledge.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and tournament/event
days.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Golf Operations & Member Experience
- Deliver outstanding, proactive service to all members and guests ensuring they feel
welcome, valued and engaged.
- Maintain a strong daily presence, including in the pro shop, playing with members and
engaging in on-course activities including pairing new members with current members
and handling any member conflicts that may arise.
- Oversee pace of play, practice facilities, pro shop operations, and overall golf course
flow (no tee time system).
- Respond to member questions, concerns, and service issues professionally and
promptly.
-Maintain an excellent working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent to
ensure optimal course conditions.
2. Instructional Programs
- Provide private lessons, clinics, and group instruction.
- Lead, grow, and innovate youth and junior golf programs, including seasonal camps
Sunday School of Golf.
- Develop annual instructional programming aligned with club goals and revenue targets.
- Maintain accurate records of lessons and instructional services.
3. Tournament & Event Management
- Plan, organize, and execute all member tournaments, leagues, outings, and special golf
events.
- Including collaboration with Event Director for Food and Beverage details
- Coordinate rules, pairings, scoring, scoreboards, communications, and awards.
- Ensure every event delivers high-quality professional member experience.
- Contribute to a welcoming, fun, and community-centered club environment.
4. Membership Recruitment & Retention
- Actively recruit new members through engagement, outreach, and club involvement.
- Build strong relationships that support retention and positive member culture.
- Always maintain 340+ active members.
- Manage membership status updates in CPS, including category changes, resignations,
and upgrades/downgrades.
- Monitor member activity and engagement trends, identifying opportunities to strengthen
member participation.
5. Financial, Billing & Administrative Duties
- Accurately complete and submit all golf department payroll.
- Ensure annual billing, including dues, lockers, cart/trail fees, and other recurring
items-is correct in the Club Profit System (POS) (You will be expected to train if you
have no prior knowledge of this system)
- Conduct a monthly Accounts Receivable review with the Business Office.
- Notify members when credit charging privileges are suspended due to delinquency;
communicate professionally and promptly.
- Oversee pro shop purchasing decisions, maintain inventory accuracy, and support
merchandise sales through strong product knowledge.
- Track and report lesson revenue, tournament financials, and all golf operations KPIs.
- Manage member sign-in systems for course monitoring and operational records.
6. Leadership & Staff Management
- Train, supervise, and schedule golf shop staff, outside services, and seasonal
employees.
- Ensure all staff maintain high standards of professionalism, service, and appearance.
- Hold regular staff meetings to communicate expectations, review operations, and gather
feedback.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, respect, and member-focused service excellence.
