Assistant or Associate Professor -Academic Cardiac Surgeon
The Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto, is inviting applications for the a fulltime faculty position.
The effective date of this appointment is tentatively planned for late 2026 or early 2027.
The successful candidate will be a cardiac surgeon with recognized subspecialty training in aortic surgery and structural heart disease. The successful candidate must hold certification in cardiac surgery recognized by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and hold, or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The candidate will have, or be working towards a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field and will be eligible for an appointment in the Department of Surgery, University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, as a Surgeon-Scientist, Surgeon-Investigator or Surgeon-Teacher. Advanced clinical training in the form of a fellowship will be considered an asset.

A demonstrated record of professionalism and collaboration is required and a key feature of the Department of Surgery. The Department of Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital is comprised of seven divisions. It enjoys a reputation for excellence in patient care and outcomes and academic excellence. We are hub for surgical innovation and a sought after destination for local, national and international learners. St. Michael’s Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma centre located in downtown Toronto, providing trauma care for the Greater Toronto Area, Southern Ontario and beyond. The Department of Surgery hold multiple provincial programs in addition to Cardiac surgery and Trauma, including Neurosurgery and renal transplantation among others.
The Division of Cardiac Surgery at St. Michael's Hospital is a busy academic unit with fully appointed clinical facilities, state-of–the- art operating theatres, a large cardiac in-patient service, and a dedicated cardiac/vascular surgery intensive care unit. The successful candidate will join a division of four cardiac surgeons with clinical and academic activities focused in surgical revascularization, mitral valve repair, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, structural heart disease, cardiac surgery trials and teaching excellence.

The anticipated salary is $500,00.00 – 650,000.00 commensurate with qualifications and experience. This estimate is based on fee for service activity.
