- Complex Assets Manager
Description
Are you an experienced accountant who thrives on complexity and wants your work to make a meaningful impact? We’re looking for a Complex Assets Manager to lead the financial stewardship of unique, non-cash charitable gifts - think privately held businesses, real estate, and limited partnerships.
This is not your typical accounting role. You’ll be at the intersection of finance, law, investment, and philanthropy - ensuring these high-value, illiquid assets are accurately valued, reported, and managed in full compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and audit standards. Your work will directly support our mission and help donors make transformational gifts with confidence.
The position is based in Kansas City, MO and reports to the Senior-Vice President of Finance. This salaried, exempt employee works in the office but has the potential to work hybrid after a successful in-office training period.
What You’ll Do:
- Guide the due diligence and accounting setup for complex gifts.
- Maintain Level 3 fair value disclosures and rollforwards for audited financials.
- Align ledger entries with donor records and fund-level reporting.
- Track cash flows, monitor restrictions, and support strategic dispositions.
- Partner with legal, investment, and donor services to manage risk and deliver excellence.
Why Work With Us?:
Our welcoming environment reflects the culture we’ve built - one that values inclusion, expertise, and agility. Employee engagement is fostered through committees, mentorship, and ongoing development opportunities. At the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, we’re proud to cultivate a workplace where people feel connected, inspired, and encouraged to grow both personally and professionally.
We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, generous paid time off, paid parental leave, wellness initiatives, and access to mental-health support. Employees receive a personal donor-advised fund with annual contributions up to $1,000, along with free downtown parking, and a 401(k) plan with a 10% employer contribution.
Requirements
What You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (CPA preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in nonprofit accounting, investment operations, or alternative asset management
- Expertise in GAAP fair value hierarchy, IRS charitable contribution rules, and audit prep
- Advanced Excel skills (Power Query, pivot tables, formulas)
- Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
