Description
DescriptionThe position oversees all operations of the Office of Advisement in the College of Business and Analytics. This includes advising students while also providing leadership and direction to advisors and staff members, working effectively to address wide-ranging student academic situations, concerns, building effective working relationships with campus and community partners including high schools and community colleges. providing training and professional development support for advisors.
This position strives to improve student success, retention, and graduation rates while establishing and maintaining a culture of providing exceptional service to students. The Chief Academic Advisor reports to the Dean of the College of Business and Analytics and/or the college's Director of Student Services.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
- Serve as a strong, enthusiastic ambassador for the university's academic programs and support services;
- Supervise, oversee and mentor academic advisors, student workers and other staff assigned to the advising center;
- Manage and administer day-to-day operations of the advising center;
- Promote and institute an inclusive environment where all students, faculty and staff are valued, supported and respected;
- Serves as a liaison between the academic programs, the Provost's office, and academic advisors;
- Maintain excellent current knowledge of the university's academic programs, curriculum, practices and academic and student policies;
- Maintain strong working knowledge of the various types of student financial assistance programs and other student support resources on campus;
- Assist with gathering, interpreting and reporting of student enrollment as well as assessment data;
- Serve on committees concerned with advancement of academic advising and/or student success;
- Prepare reports for the academic advisement center that may include outcome assessment and continuous improvement indicators as well as changes in undergraduate degree programs;
- Coordinate and collaborate with offices across campus, including Student Affairs, ADEI, and Enrollment Management areas to ensure accuracy of academic advising materials distributed to students, faculty, and staff
- Model and expect organization, attention to detail, and exemplary customer service and collegiality
- This position reports to the Dean of the College of Business and Analytics and/or Director of Student Services for the College of Business and Analytics.
- Other appropriate duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree; 3 yrs experience with academic advising at a four-year institution; experience advising students in multiple degree programs; proficiency in basic Microsoft Office programs; proficiency with student information systems (e.g., Banner, Slate) and degree audit systems (e.g., Degree Works); Knowledge of policies and procedures associated with SIUC (e.g., Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Affairs, Accreditation, Transfer Student Services); experience assisting students from a holistic perspective.
Preferred Qualifications: Position will demand excellence in communication, customer service and professionalism in dealing with university departments, faculty, staff, students, and parents.
